Steve Jobs, Apple and The Beatles
What have The Beatles got to do with Steve Jobs and his Apple Corporation?
It really is a testament to the power and impact The Beatles had on a generation of baby boomers. Not just any baby boomer, but those boomers who were between 8-16 yrs when Beatlemania hit America in 1964 and its airwaves. Most of this group were in the 2nd wave of the boomers, the first being those born from 1945-50 or 51. For anyone else not in these groups, it is impossible to describe the impact on culture, music and teenage society, The Beatles had.
Steve Jobs is in this group. He remains a huge Beatles fan. He grew up wanting to emulate them as did millions in that key age group. He modeled his hair, clothes after them. The same is true of the CEOs of the biotech firm, Genentech, who posters have them emulating the Fab Four's Sgt. Peper LP cover.
Steve was such a Beatle fan than he named his company after Apple, The Beatles' own record label in 1968 and which still exists. Many years went on between the two entities in legalities about who has the right. Obviously, The Beatles were first to use Apple to name their corporation. Both sides reached an agreement.
Steve created Apple Computors which now enjoys the same sort of buzz that The Beatles received whenever reports filtered out into the press about a new single or LP. The chatter and buzz was industry wide, the buzz and excitement filtered into teen magazines and into the high and junior high schools. Everyone wanted to know the song's name, what did sound like, when is the release. Just like Apple ipod, ipad, iphone.
It is ironic that this capability transcended from The Beatles to Apple Computers.
