President Obama's Hypocrisy on Syria
I think President Obama is getting a little to PC (politically correct) for my tastes. While I like many things about him, he is a little to diplomatic, too fair, too eager not to get involved unless a gang of nations agree in the UN, unwilling to lead the pack as President Bush did. Obama always wants an agreement before action.
Well, in Syria, after over one year of shelling and warfare between internal factions, all this talk and trying to get agreement in the UN had produced over 10000 deaths of innocent people, as opposition forces state they want America's and Nato's help. China and Russia continue to block any agreed actions, while Russian continues to sell arms to Syria and Iran provides financial and weapons also. I think Obama's policy is bullshit. He is afraid of this internal humanitarian cause because the US or NATO might get too involved, might causes something more. In Libya, that was not Obama's approach. It was internal, was it not? Is President Assad of Syria any better than Gaddhafi. Nyet! Both are murderers of their own people to stay in power.
Recently, President Obama's hypocrisy is simply angering many people. He created a Atrocities Prevention Board. Huh, say what? A panel to discuss how to stop atrocities in the world. What is Syria if it is not an atrocity? It is an atrocity only if the US interests in the area are at stake, and if not, then, there is NO duty to defend. Hell, let the slaughter continue then. Thousands of kids, babies, women, men. That is not in the US interest-but oil was in Libya.
Obama has wonderful, intelligent and passionate speeches that stir the public. He is so eloquent. He states we must defend the innocent and rescue those in need, yet talks and does nothing more about Syria. America is doing nothing to help the Free Syrian Army-we are not helping train them, arm them, yet Saudi Arabia is starting to. Turkey, a NATO member, is simply waiting for Obama's approval to overtly act and create safe zones within Syria for refugees protected by Turkey's military. Yet, Obama is "concerned" "afraid" it might be another mess-maybe Assad will collapse suddenly when outside forces intervene. Maybe that is all it will take.
Obama uses the UN, a basically helpless entity, to get consensus that never comes because Russia and China block all intervention methods. It is time to act like President Clinton did during the Kosovo Serbia mess in 1999. Despite the UN resolution then that was blocked by the same countries, Clinton said "fuck it", and ordered NATO aircraft to begin a week long bombing campaign that demolished the Serbian army committing atrocities in their ethnic cleansing campaign. The threats of Russia and China were blusters, just bullshit, and Clinton called them on it. Not only did America and NATO stop the atrocities but peace followed.
Relying on the UN observers is comic relief. Even they are unarmed and have been shot at. Once they leave an area, the Syrian killings go on. Obama is making America a follower and not a leader of nations. I, for one, am sick of it. Sometimes, you just have to not care what others think and just do it.
Obama should do the right thing, but he is squawking like a chicken on Syria.
